Toenails

Top: left foot treated with amorolfine nail lacquer.

Left big toe, Amorolfine nail lacquer. Note how still-infected thicker nail has grown out halfway.

Right foot, daily application of lamisil single-dose 1 % solution, same stuff that left my fingernails 99% cured in about 4 months.

Right toenail, lamisil. Thick nail has grown out halfway. The red dots are marks from going a bit hard with the grinding machine

Will file them down again (not excited about it, it is a boring and tiring process) and continue treatment. The treatment that is least successful I will discontinue and I will keep doing what works, be it amorolfine or terbinafine. On the foot that is not doing best I will try a new treatment, not sure what yet. We'll see.

EDIT: I checked out my first post from august 2009 with pictures from then. I had forgotten how bad it was, my toenails have actually come a looong way! Both feet, although still infected, have improved enormously. Fantastic. :D

  1. Hi- how long did you use the lamisil once on the right foot?
Your nails are looking really amazing-well done!

  2. I have been using it consistently for 6 months now. As mentioned, the nails are all much better than they were before, but not free of fungus. Once I started treating them in this manner, better looking nail started growing out straight away.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

  3. Thanks for your reply!
I filed my nails down as much as I could and Im applying lamisil, how often do you think I should file?
I filed them down to bleeding point and am thinking once weekly might be enough?
My nails are not like normal looking nails, just a bunch of fungus but I file all that down anyway.

  5. The feet are always much more stubborn. I don't hold much hope in fixing them any time soon (I did fix a finger nail once though) since they can be hidden I guess. I do miss the chance to walk about barefoot in public.

I just hope the medical establishment comes up with something. There is mega bucks to be made, so I'm sure they are working on it.

Good luck and hope your success continues!

  7. Hello anonymous. I don't have email notifications enabled so I apologize for not replying for aeons.... I am very thankful that my procedure worked for me and since I know how depressing this can be at times I am happy if I can help somebody by answering questions.

Well, "bleeding point" sounds like a bit more than enough. when I have been filing my goal has been to file as far as possible WITHOUT penetrating the nail completely. Unless the nail has detached completely from the bed, leaving an air space in between, those parts I did remove completely. Try and leave the nail intact but make it as thin as possible, almost like a rigid film on top of the nail bed. Maybe it could be good to go all the way through for some but it is hella uncomfortable, the process actually hurts, and you probably have a great risk of the nail bed becoming very irritated, possibly inflamed. It may be effective but I do not recommend it.

Pop back if you have more questions, I will check the blog out from now on and have my notifications on.

    Good luck. =)

  8. Last poster:

They are indeed working on it. =)

As we know now, the problem is not killing fungus, it is easily done with loads of different chemicals and drugs. The problem remains nail penetration, getting the drug to where it actually resides. This is why the most effective treatment (as proven in numerous double-blind clinical trials) is actually terbinafine taken orally. It seems like a huge detour to shove it down your throat instead of applying it 1 mm from the fungus, but the nail is astonishingly compact and will not let much through, therefore the drugs now being developed is not mainly new substances, but new manners in which terbinafine or other drugs can be carried through the nail with nanoparticles and whatnot.

It is not a matter of if, but of when, but they will find an effective and safe way. Let's hope it is soon!

In the meantime, don't waste your money on the wrong alternative remedies, such as the ridiculous zetaclear scam. Stay tuned for my next post. =)

  9. Oxyfend is also an obvious scam which uses mumbo-jumbo talk to make itself look credible.

Oh, and "toenail fungus treatment " who thanked me... I clicked your name to see if you also blogged and it linked to just another "alternative natural treatment" which made hilariously grand claims for itself, as many others. Oxyfend. Lots of obvious bullshit in there:

"They increase red blood cell membrane flexibility and effectiveness."

Wow. Care to link to a study that proves that? Or explains what "red blood cell membrane effectivity" actually means in the real world?

You defend your "ozone therapy" by referring to Frank Shallenberger who apparently has written a book about it but is no scientist but a quack who has in court been convicted of: "gross incompetence," "repeated acts of gross negligence," and "acts of dishonesty and corruption which are substantially related to the qualifications, functions, or duties of a physician and surgeon."

He lost his medical license and now runs just another freaking alternative medicine institution.

The story of his lawsuit is found in its entirety here, with actual scanned image:

There we go, people, another scammer trying to sell something that does not work.

  10. Hey this is Lee from Lee.org. Thanks for your comment on my site. After reading your site, it looks like your fingers are healed. Congratulations! Am I correct that the successful treatment was grinding them down to nubs then using Lamasil topical for 2 months?

How are your toes? I've got just a big toe to defeat.
